Renting in Twerton
Compare Twerton addresses around the High Street and Walwyn Close, with Newton Park travel examples, local facilities and practical viewing questions.
Twerton is in western Bath. A useful rental comparison distinguishes an address near High Street and Twerton Park from one nearer Walwyn Close or the roads above the High Street. Check the actual walking approach to errands and transport; the neighbourhood name is not a journey time.
This guide focuses on those reference points and links towards Bath Spa's campuses. It does not include all homes sometimes advertised under the wider Twerton label.
Check the High Street routine and matchday surroundings
The University of Bath's area guide identifies shops on Twerton High Street. Start there when checking everyday errands, then confirm the shops and opening hours you personally need.
Bath City FC locates its ground off the High Street. Its official visitor information is useful if a shortlisted address is near the ground. Check the fixture programme and, if it matters to your routine, observe the street around an event. The presence of a ground does not establish the noise or parking conditions inside a particular home.
B&NES describes Linear Park as running from Bellotts Road through East Twerton and Moorfields towards Bloomfield Road. Treat the path as one route to investigate, including access points, surface and suitability at the time you would use it.
Compare Newton Park and Locksbrook separately
Newton Park and Locksbrook are different Bath Spa University destinations. The university's campus directions identify both; an advert saying “near Bath Spa” needs a more precise question.
| Origin to use | Destination | What to establish |
|---|---|---|
| Your door, then Walwyn Close if appropriate | Newton Park Library | Walk to the correct U4 stop and current scheduled service |
| High Street or your actual address | Locksbrook campus entrance | Complete walking/cycling route or bus journey, including the river crossing |
| Your door | University of Bath, Claverton Down | Direct route versus another option, arrival buffer and evening return |
| Your door | Bath Spa station and city centre | Actual bus stop, connections and the final station approach |
Use Travelwest for the address-to-address comparison, recording a weekday arrival deadline and a return after your latest regular activity.
A useful morning-and-evening difference
The U4 timetable, checked on 3 November 2026, lists these Monday–Friday term-time examples:
| Direction | Named stops | Scheduled times |
|---|---|---|
| To Newton Park | Walwyn Close → Newton Park Library | 08:07 → 08:19 |
| Last listed U4 return from Newton Park | Newton Park Library → Walwyn Close | 20:15 → 20:27 |
The 12-minute outward example starts at the bus stop. It excludes the house-to-stop walk, waiting and the walk across campus. A 21:00 finish at Newton Park is too late for the listed final U4 departure, so investigate another route before committing to a house. Weekend and holiday tables differ.
Compare the house with the street
A strong viewing record connects each concern with evidence. For example, “rear room faces the garden; listened with the window open at 17:30” is more useful than “quiet area”. Add these Twerton-specific comparisons to the main viewing checklist:
- Walk from the property to the High Street and back, including any climb or steps.
- Find the boarding point for both directions of your usual bus journey.
- Check the path you would use between the home and Locksbrook, rather than measuring a straight line.
- If the house is near the football ground, ask about access arrangements on matchdays and verify them independently.
- Record where bicycles, bins and bulky deliveries would go.
For a car, check the council's permit and eligibility guidance for the precise address. Neither a driveway in a photograph nor street parking nearby proves that it is included in the tenancy.
Decide which trade-offs are acceptable
Compare the actual rent and recurring travel expenditure in the budget tool. An easier Newton Park journey may matter more to one household than frequent trips to Claverton Down; another household may have the opposite priorities. That is a personal comparison, not a ranking of Twerton against other areas.
Use Oldfield Park to compare another local shopping and transport pattern, and Weston if RUH work or a different side of Locksbrook is important. Keep a source, date and unresolved question beside each option in the viewing comparison.
Evidence checked: 3 November 2026. Facilities and selected timetable entries were researched from their operators. No property inspection, current rental-price survey or safety assessment was conducted.
