A practical guide to making Bath homeIndependent information, thoughtfully sourced
Make it practical

Compare your rental viewings

Compare up to three homes using costs, condition observations, evidence and open questions, then print your own notes.

Your notes, side by side

Three homes. The same questions.

These notes stay in this page. They are not uploaded or saved automatically. Print to retain a copy. The example fills the first unused home and keeps existing notes.

Home A
Home B
Home C

Give each home the same set of questions. Record what you saw, what the advertiser told you and what remains unchecked. This comparison keeps your observations visible without turning them into an arbitrary “best home” score.

The editable sheets below keep text in this browser page only. No notes are uploaded or automatically saved. Use a short label such as “Home A”; there is no need to enter a full private address or someone’s personal details.

Use three different states

  • Not checked: you have no useful evidence yet. A blank is not reassurance.
  • Observed / recorded: you have written a factual observation or the document you saw. That does not certify condition or compliance.
  • Needs clarification: something needs an answer, further evidence or a professional check.

Separate an observation (“a damp patch beside the window”) from an explanation (“the cause has not been established”). Record the question and who is expected to answer it.

A fictional completed section

Question Home A — fictional example Follow-up
Cost basis £780 per person per calendar month, utilities excluded Ask which bills are shared and whether any service is included
Journey assumption Weekday arrival at Claverton Down; exact stop not checked Compare outbound and evening journeys from the actual street
Condition observation Patch on bedroom wall beside window; cause unknown Ask about history, work completed and any proposed action
Documents EPC link supplied; other records not checked Record document dates and ask about remaining evidence
Current state Needs clarification Keep the response with the viewing notes

The figures and property observations above are invented to demonstrate useful notes. They are not a listing, inspection or recommended budget.

Decide what matters to your household

After the viewings, compare your essential requirements first: a workable total budget, access needs, the actual travel pattern and the household arrangement. Then distinguish a preference from something that requires further evidence. The sheet intentionally gives no weighted score or compliance label.

Use the viewing checklist to prepare, the budget planner for consistent cost units and the moving-in inventory guide once you have agreed a home.
