Editorial policy
How we choose sources, check dates, label examples and explain the limits of Bath Renting Guide.
Each guide starts with a practical reader task: comparing a budget, preparing for a viewing, choosing an accommodation search route or identifying the right official check. The publication is designed around useful decisions rather than repeated location pages or promises about property availability.
Sources and scope
We prefer sources responsible for the information they provide: GOV.UK for England tenancy guidance, Bath & North East Somerset Council for local services and policy, ONS for its defined statistics, universities for their accommodation and campus information, and transport operators for their timetables.
An agency’s own website can establish what it advertises and where it operates. It does not establish that its service is the best or that every advertised property is suitable. The letting-agent directory records official sources and does not publish star ratings or paid placements.
A source link must support the claim beside it. A district-wide rent measure cannot establish a current student-room price, and a timetable cannot guarantee the duration of a door-to-door journey. Source limitations appear where they affect the decision.
Dates and legal changes
The initial content was prepared and source-checked on 3 November 2026. An article’s preparation date is not the date of an earlier organisation’s publication. A future rule is labelled as future; a consultation is not described as a current obligation.
Routine deployment does not reset editorial dates. Substantive changes should update the affected article and its change record. The rental changes guide keeps the main legal-status table in one place; detailed payment, licensing and departure guidance remains on its own pages.
Examples and original resources
Worked budgets, example issue reports and completed worksheets are clearly labelled fictional. They show a method and do not represent an inspected property, a current quotation or a prediction. Calculations expose their inputs and assumptions. Viewing notes do not certify a property’s safety or legal compliance.
AI assistance and review limits
AI was used to assist source research, drafting, code and presentation in this edition. Content and factual citations were checked during the build, and application behaviour was tested. There has been no claimed independent legal review, professional property inspection or first-hand visit. No invented expert biography or reviewer badge is used.
The guides organise information; they do not resolve an individual legal dispute. Where the answer depends on an agreement, an address or an exception, the page directs the reader to the relevant primary guidance or appropriate adviser.
Corrections and future checks
The current contact arrangements are stated openly. There is no public correction-submission inbox at present. A future correction should retain the page’s useful URL, identify the fact that changed, replace misleading text and record the date of a substantive update.
The maintenance priorities are legal and council changes, new statistical releases, transport timetable changes, agency changes and broken links. This is a proposed editorial maintenance approach, not a claim that an automated monitoring service or future review has already taken place.
Commercial independence
This edition contains no paid listings, affiliate tracking, sponsored rankings or advertising placements. External links are selected for the reader’s task. Inclusion is not an endorsement, and no business or institution is presented as a partner without evidence.
