Getting to campus from a Bath rental

Compare exact journeys to Claverton Down, Newton Park and Locksbrook using current route sources, dated timetable examples and a travel worksheet.

Compare the journey from a particular front door to the building where you study. A bus ride between two stops is only one part of it: add walking, waiting, changes and the final approach, then check how you would get home later.

Choose the right destination

Destination Starting reference Detail to add
University of Bath, Claverton Down University bus and campus travel guidance Teaching building and the walk from Arrivals Square or the relevant stop
Bath Spa University, Newton Park Newton Park travel and campus information Actual teaching building, not just the entrance to the grounds
Bath Spa University, Locksbrook Locksbrook travel information Pedestrian entrance and the route from your stop or station

Check other teaching or placement locations separately. Do not assume that reaching Bath's railway station means reaching either university.

Current routes: use the operator's version

Checked on 3 November 2026, First Bus's university page lists U1 between the centre and University of Bath, U2 between Oldfield Park and University of Bath, and U3/U4 between the two universities on different routes. It also lists U5 around Lower Bristol Road/Newton Park and U6 between London Road and University of Bath. U2, U5 and U6 are term-time services; service levels vary through the year.

The University of Bath's current travel page flags Manvers Street works affecting U1, U1N and U3 stops through November 2026. Check the operator's current alerts and timetable version before travelling; an older station-front stop instruction may be wrong during a diversion.

Two dated timetable examples

These are published stop-to-stop timetable examples for Tuesday 3 November 2026, checked against the operator's Monday–Friday revision timetables. They are not measured journeys, live predictions or door-to-door estimates. Walking to the stop, waiting and reaching a teaching room are additional.

Origin and destination Published departure → arrival Timetabled interval Evidence
St James Cemetery, Oldfield Park → University of Bath, Arrivals Square U2: 08:13 → 08:31 18 minutes First U2 timetable, revision weekday column
St James Cemetery, Oldfield Park → Bath Spa, Newton Park Library U3: 08:00 → 08:20 20 minutes First U3 Manvers Street timetable, revision weekday column

The PDFs identify a revision period from 1 November and term service from 8 November; the U3 diversion version points readers to the normal version from 22 November. These examples remain a dated illustration if services change. Follow the operator's current timetable links for a future trip.

For Locksbrook, Bath Spa's campus page describes access from Oldfield Park station and the riverside cycle path. Check the actual walking entrance and route that meet your needs. A published estimate is not evidence of your own walking speed or access requirements.

Compare the whole trip

Use the same arrival target for every shortlisted address. In a planner, choose “arrive by” where available, check the travel date and add a sensible personal allowance for reaching the room. Record the number of changes and the consequences of missing one connection.

For walking and cycling, inspect gradients, crossings, lighting and the route you would actually take. Consider wet weather, carrying equipment and secure storage. Ask the institution and operator about specific accessibility needs; a map line does not establish step-free access.

Check at least one evening return and any weekend or holiday travel you expect. The Travelwest planner guidance explains how to find current and upcoming timetables and notes limits to live predictions. A listed frequency is not a guarantee that a particular bus will be on time or have space.
