Renting in Oldfield Park
Compare Oldfield Park rentals around Moorland Road, the railway station and campus buses, with dated travel examples and shared-house checks.
In Oldfield Park, compare three separate journeys: the walk to Moorland Road, the walk to the railway platform you need and the walk to your campus bus stop. A listing's distance from one tells you little about the other two.
This guide uses Moorland Road, Oldfield Park station on Brook Road and St James Cemetery bus stops as reference points. They are a way to compare addresses, not a boundary drawn around the whole area.
Plan the errands you will actually make
The University of Bath's area guide identifies Moorland Road as a local shopping street. Walk your likely shopping route from the particular house, including the return with bags, and check the opening hours of the businesses you expect to use.
Moorland Road Community Library provides local book borrowing. Its website says it does not offer public computers, printing or photocopying, so plan a different destination if those services matter to your study or work routine.
For a shared home, it is useful to test a complete circuit: house to groceries, then the usual bus stop, then home. A house can feel convenient at a viewing while creating an awkward daily detour.
Treat the station and the campus as different destinations
National Rail lists Oldfield Park station at Brook Road and gives it step-free category B2, meaning access has limitations. Check the detailed station information for the correct platform and your access needs; a map pin is not an accessibility assessment.
| Starting point to test | Destination | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Your door, then Oldfield Park station | Your actual rail destination | Walking approach, train stopping pattern, platform access and return service |
| St James Cemetery stop | University of Bath, Arrivals Square | U2 timetable and the separate walk to your teaching building |
| Your door, then the appropriate university-bus stop | Bath Spa University, Newton Park | Correct direction and boarding point for the current timetable |
| Your door | Bath Spa University, Locksbrook | Walking or cycling route, river crossing and the building entrance |
| Your door | Bath Spa station or the city centre | Whole journey compared with the train option; a train ride alone omits waiting |
Use Bath Spa's campus directions for the Locksbrook and Newton Park destinations, and the campus journey worksheet to compare them consistently.
A dated bus example
Checked on 3 November 2026, the U2 Monday–Friday revision timetable lists 08:13 from St James Cemetery to 08:31 at Arrivals Square: 18 scheduled minutes. This does not include your walk, a queue, delay or the final campus journey.
The same timetable's final listed return is 18:30 from Arrivals Square, arriving at St James Cemetery at 18:46. A 21:00 finish therefore needs a different return plan. Check the current university route timetables, including the applicable U3 service, rather than extending the morning example into an all-evening promise. The U2 calendar changes between term, revision and no-service periods.
Look closely at how a shared house works
For a group, the useful comparison is how the whole property operates when everyone is home. Use these prompts alongside the house-sharing guide:
- Count usable food-storage space and ask which appliances are included.
- Check where clothes can dry without blocking a room or passage.
- Compare bedroom position, usable desk space and the location of shared bathrooms.
- Identify the bin store and how bins reach the collection point.
- Ask where bicycles may be kept and whether access crosses another occupier's space.
- Record who deals with repairs and any work promised before occupation.
For parking, check the council's address-specific permit route; a household should not assume each person can obtain a permit.
Make the shortlist decision
Choose between actual homes using your verified journey and the viewing comparison tool. If you need frequent Bath Spa rail departures, also compare the station approach from Widcombe and the city centre. If local errands matter more, compare the full weekly routine, including the trips that require leaving the neighbourhood.
Evidence checked: 3 November 2026. The transport example is a timetable reading, not a journey we travelled. No current room-price or safety ranking is inferred from the neighbourhood name.
