Renting in Weston

Compare Weston village and hospital-area rentals, with RUH and city travel examples, local errands and questions for shift workers and students.

For Weston, start by separating the village around High Street and Church Street, Haviland Park, and the Royal United Hospital site on Combe Park. A rental advertised as near the hospital may still involve a different journey from the one you need to a particular ward, department or staff entrance.

Weston is on the north-western side of Bath. This guide uses those reference points to compare homes; it does not treat Weston and every neighbouring Lower Weston address as interchangeable.

Build a routine around your actual destination

The RUH's official location page gives the Combe Park address and links to the site map and department directory. For work, establish the entrance you will use and add the walk inside the site. Test your real shift start and finish, including weekends where relevant.

For local errands, Love Weston Library is on Church Street. Its published sessions are limited, so check the current hours against your routine. The University of Bath area guide also identifies the High Street shopping area. Verify the individual grocery, pharmacy or other service you need before treating an address as self-contained.

Compare the village, hospital and campus trips

Origin to record Destination Useful check
Full rental address RUH department or workplace entrance Door-to-door walk or bus journey at the actual shift time
Haviland Park or your nearest correct stop Bath city centre and Bath Spa station Applicable route, final station approach and late return
Your door Locksbrook campus entrance Complete walking/cycling route, crossings and any bus alternative
Your door Newton Park campus The whole connection, including changes and waiting
Your door University of Bath, Claverton Down Compare the current bus options with your exact class and return times

Bath Spa University's directions identify Locksbrook and Newton Park separately. The RUH's public-transport page links to local operators. At this review it warns that service 3 is not serving the hospital during works, so an old route description is not enough.

Morning and evening route 4 examples

The First Bus route 4 Monday–Friday timetable, checked on 3 November 2026, is labelled valid from 21 September 2026 until further notice.

Journey Selected scheduled times
Village-side reference towards the centre Haviland Park 07:35 → RUH 07:52 → Bath Bus Station 08:07
Evening return Dorchester Street 21:15 → RUH 21:27 → Haviland Park 21:34

These are selected stops on scheduled services, not verified travel times from a home. Add walking and an arrival margin. A bus stopping at the hospital does not guarantee it fits an early, late or Sunday shift. Check current operator notices as well as the timetable.

View the home at a useful time

If you work shifts, examine the bedroom in the conditions in which you expect to sleep. Ask about blinds, ventilation and any work already planned. Record audible activity at that particular visit; do not label an entire area quiet because it felt quiet at midday.

Make the following checks part of your shortlist:

  • Walk between the house and the hospital entrance you would actually use.
  • Check how the trip works when you finish after normal shopping hours.
  • Ask where a bicycle can be kept and whether the route to it is practical.
  • Confirm the exact boundary and permitted use of any advertised parking space.
  • Compare the kitchen, bathroom and laundry arrangements with the hours of other occupiers.

Use the viewing checklist for the property itself and the house-sharing guide where different work or study schedules will overlap.

Keep parking and access assumptions separate

A home's proximity to the RUH does not confer hospital parking rights. Check workplace arrangements with the employer and residential eligibility through B&NES parking guidance. Treat these as separate questions.

If your main destination is Locksbrook, compare an actual Weston address with an actual Twerton address using the same arrival time and access needs. If the city centre dominates your week, include its transport cost in the rental budget before deciding whether the arrangement suits you.

Desk research checked: 3 November 2026. Named facilities and selected timetables were checked online. No shift commute, property condition, neighbourhood rent level or parking entitlement has been verified for an individual renter.
